Science aims to get to know the unknown. Science claims to prove what is known. Yet, most of our knowledge of Science is Mythical. We therefore must consider the Myth of Science; and Science as a Myth.
- Science starts as a subjective EXPERIENCE of an individual scientist.
- Sharing the findings with research partners has the quality of a STORY.
- Reporting the findings to non-research-colleagues is merely HEARSAY.
- For outsiders, the same information is however merely a MYTH.
Science is part of a Social Project. Science is part of a social development. Science is also a project of consciousness. Every process in consciousness is part of science.
We need to regard science in its social context.
We need to juxtapose science with art and trade and mysticism. In this case we must juxtapose science with other forms of writings. That includes fiction, fantasies, fairy tales, and ... propaganda. We find, that the integrity of science cannot be established ... by science.
In many ways science operates like a kind of priesthood. Science acts like the inquisition, against which science originally evolved. We must juxtapose the activities of science with those of churches. Specifically the intentional manipulation of mass convictions.
In developing science, we try to know the unknown. That is, we try to understand something we do not understand. This involves a psychological undertaking, of changing our thinking. Most often, the known is something which was known, but disregarded.
Lightning (electricity) is an example: it has always existed and been described. Yet, in Greek society lightning was described as a trait of the gods (Zeus). As a result, it was not studied and could not be used by humans. One kite flown in a storm with a key changed that whole understanding.
Benjamin Franklin is said to have confirmed that Lightning is electric.
Fiction and science fiction cannot be seen separate from science. Leonardo da Vinci foresaw the helicopter, by 1500+ years. Jules Verne foresaw many other technologies, ny 150+ years. Always there first needs to be the vision; then the technology follows.
