“It is Scientific”. ‘Science has proven’. “Scientists claim that”. Science, has become the as-if religion of what is true, and real.
Some people interpret that as (if) a fact. They ignore that any scientific ‘fact’ is a mental artefact. They ignore that science is a process of discovery. They pretend that if scientists wrote it down, it (must be) true...
There is no difference between people believing in written science or written religion. People who proclaim that what-is-written-must-be-so, in religion, are called “Fundamentalists”. In the same way we can call people who do the same for science, “Fundamentalist” also. We must address, and deal with, the existence of scientific fundamentalism.
in church religion the word “fundamentalism” indicated people with fixed ideas. Fundamentalists ideas are based on a text which they choose to believe, often literally. Fundamentalists thereby let their belief and life be determined by others; the authors of the book. Yet they choose to believe that the book itself has no author, and that their belief is their own.
Fundamentalists believe that they experience freedom of choice. Because fundamentalists choose to ignore that others wrote that book. Thus they choose to ignore that they belief in ideas of others. That viscous cycle in their reasoning makes them irresponsible.
Interactions with fundamentalist safe therefore often volatile/explosive. Their hidden denial of their own denial determines their emotions. Their reflex system will 'kick in' to protect/defend their reflex system. That is known as the ego: reflexes controlling/'protecting' reflexes.
Science too has its ample share of fundamentalists. Here too, people chose to believe in what is written. For them too, reality can only be as was described. Here too, defensive reflexes will attack others who believe/think/live otherwise.
When people tell a story we can imagine the events. We can to some extent identify ourselves with the tale. We can even pretend that the fictional story is real. But that does not make it real; it is still a story; it is still finction.
The findings of science are not facts but artefacts, as quantum theory points out. The descriptions of science of reality are in fact formulations of realisation. The theories of mature are abstract models, linguistic constructs; not real. Science as such is a belief system, a church religion, but not the experience of being creator.
The problem with fundamentalism however does not lie in believing others. The problem of fundamentalism does not lie in literally believing texts. The problem of fundamentalism does not lie in the lies contained in the text. The problem of fundamentalism lies in the denial of denial; denial of freedom of choice.
Fundamentalism is a form of slavery. Fundamentalism is a form of unconscious being. Fundamentalism is a form of reflex driven thinking/behaviour. Fundamentalism, in that sense, is also very present and in part dominant in science.
