DeDogmatisation is more important than Falsifiability. Falsification, disproving of false hypothyses, is essential to science. It is a generalisation of the “Reductio ad Absurdum”, used in mathematics. It is the application of the idea, that an idea is just an idea: it is possible to test any idea, in itself, by testing the validity of the opposite idea.
Dedogmatisation is a term coined by Erik Engdahl. A former autist, he did two academic doctorate studies. His insight was that much of science has become a dogma. Thence he introduced the concept, and term, DEDOGMATISATION.
Dedogmatisation if the “reductio ad absurdum” of every hypothesis of science. It implies that any hypothesis is to be understood as a social linguistic construct. This web site makes use of dedogmatisation in different series of Essays. “The Bones of Belief” e.g. show how we make convictions, “Science as Nonsense” shows how belief and dogma can lead to a false understanding of science.
Dedogmatisation is essential to science; and ought to be taught as a foundation of science. Science is but an instrument; its validity is always determined by its limitations. Science is created by scientists: it is determined by their own individual limitations. Any scientist needs to learn to understand the nature of fact as belief; and how to be able to work with that understanding.
